UK Hospitality expresses concerns on ability to access labour and fill vacancies
The trade body warned that this may further damage high street businesses.
Hospitality sector trade body UK Hospitality has expressed concerns with their ability to access labour and fill vacancies following news that employment has hit an all-time high of 32.5 million.
This issue is expected to worsen once migration becomes restricted as a result of Brexit.
“Historically low unemployment and high employment is driving labour shortages in sectors like hospitality. Our members are reporting that they are finding it increasingly difficult to fill vacancies. Businesses are concerned that they will not be able to find the employees they need to continue to grow,” UKHospitality chief executive Kate Nicholls said.
She also warned that this will only have a negative effect on high street if the businesses there are “unable to hire and grow”.
“The sector is working hard to fill vacancies and invest in their domestic workforces, but their efforts will be undermined if there simply aren’t enough bodies to fill empty roles,” Nicholls continued.
