Greggs holds wine tasting event
The bakery chain is supporting a wine tasting evening to educate customers on the best wines to pair with their steak bakes and sausage rolls.
The event is being held at the Vesuvio wine bar in Darlington, County Durham, in the North East of England and takes place on Sunday 8th November at 2.00pm.
Eight favourites from the Greggs menu – both savoury and sweet – will be matched up with a selected accompanying glass of vino as part of the tutored tasting of wines.
Darren Shield, Director at Vesuvio Wines and wine expert said: “I have worked in the wine industry for a long time and hold monthly wine tastings at my wine shop and bar in Darlington."
“I realise this wine tasting tutorial session may seem slightly unusual, but we are very keen to show that wine and food matching doesn’t always have to be a formal, complex, intimidating field – and can be combined with great tasting good quality favourites from Greggs."
“We have carefully attempted to match eight of their most popular products with eight of our wines and we think we’ve come up with something intriguing.”
Malcolm Copland, Commercial Director at Greggs said: “Our food is enjoyed by millions of people across the country and we recognise that customer tastes and eating habits are evolving, so our menu is too – and there’s no reason why our great food can’t be enjoyed with a fine glass of wine, occasionally!”
The Greggs products that will be matched with a selection of quality whites, reds and roses include:
- Sausage roll
- Steak bake
- Cheese and bacon wrap
- Cheese and onion pasty
- Sweet mince pie
- Chargrilled chicken oval bite sandwich
- Christmas and bacon sandwich
- Salted caramel doughnut
