Burger King's plant-based whopper lands in 2,500 Europe locations: report

The Rebel Whopper features the The Vegetarian Butcher’s plant-based patties.

Restaurant Brands International’s Burger King brought its meatless Rebel Whopper to 2,500 locations across 25 countries in Europe, touted by the chain as their largest product launch in history.

As reported by Bloomberg, the burger chain partnered with Unilever's The Vegetarian Butcher to feature the Netherlands-based manufacturer’s plant-based patties in the vegetarian burger.

“We’re able to do it because of our joint expertise on being able to develop the product and scale it up so effectively,” Burger King and Popeyes EMEA President David Shear said in an interview with Bloomberg.

Earlier this year, the burger giant has launched the Rebel Whopper and the Rebel Chicken King in Sweden. In the US, they launched a similar vegetarian burger featuring Impossible Foods’ plant-based patties last April.
