Greggs takes on Starbucks with rival pumpkin spiced latte

The food-on-the-go retailer will also offer the drink for free to customers registering on their rewards app.

In a bid to rival Starbucks, Greggs has announced its own version of a pumpkin spiced latte.

The new addition in their hot drink range will have steamed milk and pumpkin spice-flavoured syrup topped with cream and shortbread crumbs.

The retailer says they used arabica and robusta coffee beans from the Fairtrade Foundation, an organization that aims in helping coffee farmers.

Greggs also plans to give the drink for free to 100,000 existing members of their rewards app starting September 6. Anyone registering on the app will be given a free cup.

“A regular cup (12oz) costs from £2.20, with a large cup (16oz) costing from £2.50 – a saving of nearly £1.00 per cup compared to Starbucks’ version starting from £3.15,” Greggs said in a media release.
