Jaz and Jul's serves up chocolate-themed vegan-friendly brunch
The chain launched a new chocolate-themed weekend brunch at their Chocolate House in Islington.
The brunch menu is served up from 10am to 3pm every weekend at the cocoa café and shop located near Angel tube in Chapel Market, which is also the production workshop for their proper hot chocolates.
With a vast array of vegan options to ensure that everyone can enjoy dessert for breakfast, Jaz & Jul’s new brunch features desserts like cinnamon and cocoa dusted French toast made in a coconut, almond and banana batter, and topped with berry compote and maple syrup.
Weekend visitors can enjoy sweet fluffy chocolate-stout waffles with toppings ranging from peach and nectarine slices plus Kentish cobnut ice-cream (handmade by fellow Broadway Market trader Nonna’s); to decadent banana, chocolate sauce and crushed peanuts.
The owners Jasmine Kershaw and Juliet Sampson said they are keen to show how cocoa also naturally compliments many savoury flavours, so brunchers who are sweet enough already can opt for cornbread waffles paired with Mexican-inspired black bean chilli in mole sauce and avocado or roast cherry tomatoes, crumbled feta and cocoa pesto drizzle.
The Jaz & Jul’s cocoa-inspired light breakfast offering is also available. During the week, Chocolate House guests can take their pick from healthy choices such as granola-topped smoothie bowls combining cocoa, avocado, banana, date and almond; or toast smothered with “Jaffa cake” orange marmalade and chocolate chunks, Seggiano chocolate-hazelnut spread or cocoa nib and olive tapenade.
A lineup of special boozy brunch cocktails including Mimosas and Spiked Iced Tea will be available at the Chocolate House alongside the all-day breakfast menu on Saturdays and Sundays, and a shot of organic liqueur can also be added to any of Jaz & Jul’s handmade single-origin drinking chocolates (as well as artisan marshmallows and whipped coconut cream).
