Nando's now owning over 21,000 South African art pieces: report
The chicken chain currently displays 9,000 artworks across its 1,200 restaurants worldwide.
Nando’s now has over 21,000 art pieces as part of its Southern African art and design collection since starting it in 2001, CNN has reported.
Around 9,000 pieces in the collection are currently displayed in the chain’s restaurants, whilst the rest are stored in a warehouse by its partner art consultancy Spier Arts Trust.
Spier Arts Trust was tapped by the chicken chain to ensure every artwork comes from southern Africa-based artists. The trust acquires around US$645,000 worth of art every year from galleries and through Nando's art programs.
Last year has seen the launch of Nando’s Portal to Africa online platform where interior designers can purchase furniture and fittings. It has currently sold over $2.4 million worth of art pieces through the portal.
