UK recognized Globally for Night time Offerings
Three hundred million out of the 1.5 billion day visits to the UK had a meal or night out as their focus.
This is according to the report ‘Forward into the Night’ by Professor Frank Furedi, published by the Night Time Industries Association.
“The UK is shifting socially and culturally towards the night time,” the report said.
“For an increasing proportion of the population social activities either begin with or extend into the night. This trend is not isolated to the UK and around the world global cities are adapting in order to keep pace with the demand. The UK and London in particular needs to remain competitive in this field if it is to maintain status as a global capital of culture and commerce.”
“According to TripAdvisor rankings two of the top three destinations for night-life in Europe are in the UK and in 2014 inbound tourism to the UK saw 34.8 million visitors spend £21.7 billion.”
However, the book claims that a number of factors are affecting night-life, particularly the consumption of alcohol in pubs and bars.
“One in two customers believe that drinking in pubs or bars has become too expensive,” the book said.
“The Night Time Economy has a major role to play in the revitalization of urban life and in enhancing the quality of life in British towns and cities. That is why instead of seeking to confine and regulate its activities policy makers should work towards providing the optimal conditions for the realization of the NTE’s considerable potential.”
