Subway-backed NFL Flag Football programme expands
The initiative has already reached over 10,000 children across eight UK cities.
Subway-backed NFL UK’s Flag Football programme is expanding both its teacher training and ambassador programme.
NFL research revealed that the first year of the programme led to a 73% increase in British schoolchildren exceeding the British Heart Foundation's (BHF) recommended guidelines of exercising for more than one-hour daily.
The initiative has already reached over 10,000 children across eight UK cities. Schools have until March 29 to sign up.
The ambassador programme will see university coaches will teach the basics of American football, with the NFL providing schools with free equipment and training.
In its first year, the ambassador programme was implemented in Manchester, London, Leeds, Birmingham and Bristol. From January 2019, NFL Flag will be expanding into 60 news schools across Portsmouth, Glasgow, Flintshire, Leicester, Northampton and Coventry, and new for 2019 in Dublin with additional teacher- led regions in North Wales, Manchester, Ealing and Southend.
“We’re delighted to see the NFL Flag programme continue to grow and reach school children across the UK and Ireland. We want children to enjoy the benefits of the NFL and group sport and hope as many schools as possible sign up to the scheme,” Colin Hughes, Subway Country Director, UK and Ireland, said.
