Parliament urged to review apprenticeship levy
Government support to address job vacancies were also raised.
Parliament should review the apprenticeship levy and address job vacancies issues within the sector, trade body UK Hospitality said.
The trade association highlighted the sector’s 15% apprenticeship growth in 2019, noting its importance in job creation.
“They help provide opportunities at all levels across the UK and they are hugely valuable when it comes to upskilling the workforce. They help provide real career progression and are key to getting people off entry level wages,” UKHospitality chief executive Kate Nicholls said at the Hospitality Apprenticeship Showcase in Parliament.
Aimed to provide more apprenticeships, the Apprenticeship Levy, Nicholls said, “isn’t working for all businesses.” “It needs reviewing to increase flexibility and make sure it is appropriate for businesses of all sizes,” she added.
