Plant-based concept Tibits to close London restaurants

Outlets in Switzerland and Germany will remain open.

Plant-based concept Tibits has announced the permanent closure of its London restaurants after 12 years, citing the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

With a buffet-style model combined with economic uncertainty and “challenging” trading conditions, the founders of Tibits say they were “saddened to not find a way to be able to re-open its doors at Heddon Street and Bankside.”

The London team was offered to work in the Swiss or German tibits restaurants, which will remain open. A search for the successor for the two central London premises is ongoing.

“Running a restaurant in London has become more and more difficult in the last three years with ever increasing costs. It is with sadness that we will not be part of the London restaurant scene anymore. We thank our great team and loyal guests for their support in the past 12 years. Hope to meet many of them in our Swiss homeland again,” co-founder Reto Frei said in a statement.
