Wagamama to reopen 67 delivery, takeaway sites by end-June

The chain reopened their delivery kitchens at the end of last month as a first wave trial.

Wagamama has revealed plans to reopen up to 67 nationwide delivery sites by the end of June, following delivery trials in London and Leeds.

24 sites have reopened last 21 May, and a further 20 will do so by 28 May. By the start of June, Wagamama said, they intend to have 49 delivery sites before reaching the 67-store target.

The pan-Asian chain reopened their delivery kitchens at the end of last month as a first wave trial.

“Over the past couple of months our focus has been on creating a safe working environment for our team members and our two-week trial has enabled our teams to return to work safely. The next logical step for us is to open additional sites throughout the UK, this will still very much form a test and learn approach for the business,” Wagamama CEO Emma Woods said.

Wagamama earlier launched its ‘wok from home’ cookery guide, which saw customers cooking some of the chain’s dishes.

“The series has had phenomenal success, already obtaining over 2 million views in the past six weeks. It’s brought a lot of joy to a lot of people and this is something that we will continue to evolve as we endure to create a sense of community through our food, even during these unprecedented times,” Woods added.

More chains detail reopening plans
Other chains that have announced reopening plans include Ole & Steen, which will begin a trial reopening programme from 2 June, starting with three bakeries in Richmond, High Street Kensington and Bedford Avenue.

Honest Burgers also said it is reopening the majority of its sites throughout the UK for delivery, celebrating with the return of their Spring burger.

Plans for a second Taco Bell restaurant in Aberdeen have also been submitted, with the new site including a drive-through.

200 Degrees Coffee announced the reopening of its Flying Horse Walk shop in Nottingham.

Boparan Restaurant Group-operated Slim Chickens reopened outlets in London’s Brunswick Centre and in Bristol’s Cabot Centre last week. Re-opening dates for Slim’s outlets in Birmingham, Bluewater, Cardiff and London’s Soho & St James are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
