McDonald’s has announced its plan to eliminate the use of foam packaging by the end of 2018. According to Chicago Business Journal, It is set to adopt 100% fiber-based packaging in two years. About “64% of all our fiber-based packaging now comes from certified or recycled sources, with a goal of 100% by 2020,” the company wrote. “We also plan to eliminate foam packaging from our global system by the end of 2018."
Pizza Hut US has teamed up with Toyota in a bid to make pizza delivery more efficient, and which could eventually lead to self-driving pizza cars. The companies announced the partnership on Monday. Toyota revealed an autonomous concept vehicle, the e-Palette, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. According to Business Insider, the car may one day be used by Pizza Hut to deliver and possibly cook pizzas. Toyota plans to start testing the vehicle as early as 2020.
Jack in the Box is considering replacing cashiers with automated kiosks. According to Fortune, CEO Leonard Comma said "it just makes sense" seeing the rising costs of labour.
On January 9, 2018, President and CEO Patrick Doyle announced his intention to depart Domino's on June 30 after more than eight years. At the same time, Domino's Board of Directors announced the promotion of Richard Allison, 50, President of Domino's International, to the role of CEO, succeeding Doyle; and the promotion of Russell Weiner, 49, President of Domino's USA, to the newly-created role of chief operating officer of Domino's and President of the Americas. Both appointments will be effective as of July 1, 2018.
