Hampstead Market to open in September
Hampstead Market opens its gates on Saturday 10th September and will take place every week from 10am until 3pm behind the Everyman Cinema on the grounds of Hampstead Parochial School.
Visitors to Hampstead Market will be able to buy quality produce including organic salad and vegetables from Wild Country Organics, raw milk and butter from Hook & Son, and fresh sourdough bread from Olivier’s Bakery; as well as street-food such as Muffin Man’s muffins and Sub Cult’s subs.
Organiser Mike Norledge said: “The benefits of food markets are wide-ranging. By shopping at Hampstead Market, shoppers will be helping to preserve farming traditions and supporting local artisan producers. We also work exclusively with schools, who host our markets, with the aim of benefitting the communities around them and the education of school children in the area. The students at St Paul’s school in Primrose Hill had a chance to set up their own stall selling herbs they grew from seed in the summer term. It was a great success! We want our markets to benefit both the community and local enterprise.”
Norledge said that he is also keen for the market to be a place where adults and children can learn about where food comes from and to give shoppers the opportunity to get to know the person behind the stall - the hands that grew the vegetables, the inspiration behind the cakes, the people who sourced these delicious products.
“All local schools are being invited to take part in a food and farming quiz on our opening day which can also be downloaded from our website in September. We encourage everyone to come to our opening day and enjoy the live music, children's’ entertainment and explore some of the other amazing shops and restaurants in Hampstead.”
