Hippo Takes Flight at Newcastle Airport
Children's charity help celebrate opening of Flying Hippo, Newcastle Airport's newest family diner.
A group of visually impaired children from Useful Vision, a local charity supporting blind and partially sighted children in the North-East, teamed up with renouned food artist Annabel de Vetten, to create a 2 ft high sponge-cake hippo in the shape of the cafe's mascot, Hamilton Hippo.
The artwork, which weighed 10kg, took 50lbs of flour, 12 eggs and 2 metres of icing to create.
Flying Hippo, an SSP operated cafe, is a family diner with an American flavour to its menu and promises hurried flyers a 15 minute turnaround on their orders.
