Hummus Bros goes into administration, cites "tough times" in high streets
The fast food chain operated for 13 years.
Hummos Bros has publicly announced that they are going into administration, citing a "perfect storm" of rising costs, reduced demand, and market over-supply.
"The combination of the pound falling after the Brexit vote, which pushed up the costs of our raw ingredients, as well as property rents and business rates going up ever higher, make the high street a very difficult place to operate in at this time," they said in a statement.
The company also said that it had attempted to "pivot away" from the high street by finding other opportunities for sources of revenue, trying to pursue a street food arm and worked with a specialist to launch a supermarket product.
These efforts, however, failed to keep the business afloat.
The chain, known for their Mediterranean food, follows a developing list of brands sinking into administration due to higher costs – for staff and business rates – and a change in consumer behaviour.
