Warrens Bakery confirms shutdown of 22 stores: report
The move came due to uncertainty surrounding Brexit.
Warrens Bakery, touted as Britain’s oldest Cornish pasty maker, has confirmed the shut down of its 22 stores across England counties, a spokesperson told Cornwall Live.
The move came due to uncertainty surrounding Brexit, the company said in a previous statement.
“In reaction to continued Brexit uncertainty and its ongoing consumer impact, we have taken the extremely hard decision to propose a restructure of the business,” the report cited the company’s statement released last month.
According to the report, 44 company-owned sites remained open. The bakery chain as well retained 25% of its retail teams “within available vacancies in other stores.”
Meanwhile, updates regarding its St. Just bakery proposal, which includes the chain’s plan to employ “nearly 350 staff across the South West,” will become available on 19 December.
