LEON's vegan burgers now outselling meat-based counterparts
60% of sales are now from their veggie or vegan products.
LEON announced that sales of its vegan burgers have overtaken meat burgers for the first time.
Data from the chain revealed an increase of 15.5% in year-on-year sales has seen the percentage of vegan burger sales jump from 41.3% to 56.8% in 2020 so far.
LEON adds that its range of vegetarian, vegan and free from dishes, meat alternative products now make up almost 60% of total sales across the brand’s 75-plus restaurants. In 2019, vegan sales made up 44% of sales while vegetarian options reached 10% during Veganuary.
The announcement follows the launch of LEON’s new chipotle & avocado Burger, which is made with a vegan patty, smoky chipotle mayo and smashed guacamole.
“Vegan and veggie dishes have always been on LEON’s menus, but we’re now starting to see the market catch up,” LEON head of food Erica Molyneaux said.
Alongside the new vegan burger, LEON has also launched a new Chilli Con Carne made with British beef, black beans in a tomato sauce, spices and brown rice.
