McDonald's opens delivery kitchen to support nearby restaurants
The concept is part of the fast food giant’s wider trial to test different restaurant formats.
McDonald’s has opened a delivery kitchen in Hanworth to support nearby restaurants in meeting demand from McDelivery orders.
“The opening will ensure that restaurants in the surrounding area can continue to provide the service and convenience that our customers expect, while ensuring that McDelivery customers have a great experience,” a spokesperson for the chain said in a statement.
The Hanworth delivery kitchen is not open to the public, but the chain says it is made clear on the receipt and on the UberEats app that the food is prepared in the said location.
McDonald’s also said that the term ‘dark kitchen’, as reported by other outlets, is an inaccurate description as the kitchen is said to be identical in all respects to a regular McDonald's outlet, only without customers.
“The kitchen looks and feels exactly the same as all of our other kitchens up and down the country, and will deliver the same great tasting food our customers expect and adhere to exactly the same standards of food quality,” the spokesperson added.
The opening is also part of a wider trial by the fast food giant to test different restaurant formats. Recently, the chain opened McDonald's to Go, a small format restaurant in Fleet Street.
