Brits spent more on out of home leisure last August, says research
In August, the average British household spent £229 on out of home leisure, a £7 (3%) increase year-on-year and a £20 (10%) increase month-on-month, according to the latest leisure spend tracker report by Greene King.
The report found that with the summer holidays in full swing in August, Brits had a customary increase in spending on out of home leisure. In 2015 spending in August rose by £17 (8%) against July and while a large increase is expected, this month’s data is positive.
Increases of £9 (10%) and £7 (15%) for Eating Out and Drinking Out respectively highlight the strength of this month’s findings and while Other Leisure continues to struggle relative to 2015 with a year-on-year decrease of £9 (10%), its importance to the summer holidays is clear, with month-on-month growth of £9 (13%).
Rob Rees, Group Marketing Director from Greene King, said, "This month’s figures reveal a positive month for the leisure sector with consumers taking advantage of both better weather and the summer holidays. Overall, average spending rose by 3% year-on-year to reach £229 for August as a whole. Both Eating Out and Drinking Out enjoyed month-on-month and year-on-year growth in the last days of summer. Despite a yearon-year decline in Other Leisure, the continued strong performance of Eating Out and Drinking Out are a boost to the sector, and further growth underlines their importance to the sector."
