Demand for organic sauces increased, survey says
Consumers also prefer sauces with environmental-friendly packaging.
A survey conducted by the sauce company Mizkan, who operates the Branston and Sarson’s brands, has revealed that one out of four people are looking for organic sauce choices as compared to last year’s one out of five.
22% are also requesting for gluten-free sauces, up from 19%. They also further reported that 89% of the respondents are willing to try new sauce, most of which are aged 16 to 34 years old.
The most requested sauces are ketchup with 58%, mayonnaise with 52% and malt vinegar at 40%.
Their is also a shifting focus on environmental-friendly packaging as the amount of sauces served in bottles has increased by 7% year-over-year. 59% of the respondents said that they prefer bottled sauces on the table.
“Our research has revealed that condiments are becoming a huge staple from consumers when dining out, with a clear demand for new and exciting flavours. Operators should be looking to capitalise on this, utilising trends from around the globe,” Jenny Tran, brand manager for Branston Foodservice, said.
“With that said, it is still important for restaurants to be stocking more traditional sauces such as tomato ketchup and a broad variety will help to keep all consumers happy.”
