Deliveroo to expand Edinburgh tech hub in bid to boost rider, consumer experience
The platform also seeks to tap into its latest acquired software design firm to develop new products and services.
Deliveroo is moving to a larger headquarters in Edinburgh in a bid to capitalise on the “rapid growth” of the local digital technology sector.
Moving out of the Scottish capital’s technology park CodeBase, the delivery company’s tech hub is slated to relocate to a new headquarters within the city in April 2020.
Within the year, the delivery giant aims to hire over 70 software engineers, product managers, data scientists, and designers, to build on the expertise of their latest acquisition, software design and development firm Cultivate, in developing products and services.
“These new products will improve rider experience and help restaurants grow their businesses, with a particular focus on small businesses,” Deliveroo engineering VP Dan Winn said in a statement.
Eventually, the Edinburgh tech hub, the company’s first tech hub outside London, would house other areas of the company’s technical arm, including teams focused on consumers, riders and restaurants.
Moreover, Deliveroo announced its support to local community projects such as Queercode, which aims to support Scottish LGBTQ+ people who have interest in technology and Digital Skills for Girls, its non-profit organisation teaching computer science to young girls.
