Itsu reports £6m pre-tax loss in 2018

Stronger sales were offset by expansion in the US.

Itsu has reported a £6m pre-tax loss in 2018, despite pulling a revenue of £116m, up 9% on the previous year.

The sushi chain explained the loss was largely due to continued investment in the firm’s expansion in the US after it opened its first New York branch.

Despite this, the chain got a 3.6% rise in UK life-for-like sales, with its British business on track to break even this year.

Its currently has now has more than 70 sites across the country. It has also outlined a two-year plan to weather tough trading conditions facing the wider UK retail sector.
