Dunkin' Donuts To Alter Powdered Sugar Recipe

Though UK didn't use formulation in question.

Dunkin' Donuts has been in the news this week in the US, where they have announced that they are re-formulating the powdered sugar used on their doughnuts.

The move comes after concerns were raised about titanium dixoide, a whitening agent used in the powdered sugar, and the use of nanotechnology.

Speaking of the re-formulation, Dunkin' Donuts said "the ingredient used in our powdered donuts does not meet the definition of "nanomaterial" as outlined under FDA guidance. Nevertheless, we began testing alternative formulations for this product in 2014 and we are in the process of rolling out a solution to the system that does not contain titanium dioxide".

UK stores will not be affected however, as they use a different supply chain to that of the US.

The move comes at a time when QSRs are increasingly focussed on their raw ingredients, and just a week after McDonald's announced they would no longer use chickens treated with antibiotics.
