KFC, Burger King launch vegan burgers
Pizza Hut and Nando’s also have their own offerings this Veganuary.
KFC and Burger King are offering vegan burgers across their UK stores this month.
The Yum! Brands-owned chicken giant introduced its vegan burger offering nationwide as a permanent item following its trial in select restaurants in London, Bristol and the Midlands last summer.
The Imposter Burger, which rolled out last 2 January, is made with meat alternative Quorn fillet, vegan mayonnaise and iceberg lettuce, on a soft-glazed bun.
The Whopper-making chain, meanwhile, announced that its plant-based burger is coming to their UK restaurants on 8 January.
The Rebel Whopper, made in partnership with alternative meat producer Vegetarian Butcher, is made with a flame-grilled plant-based patty topped with sliced tomatoes, lettuce, mayonnaise, ketchup, pickles and sliced white onions on toasted sesame seed bun.
Last November, the burger chain brought its meatless whopper to 2,500 locations across 25 countries in Europe, hailed as their largest product launch in history.
Fast food chain Honest Burgers is also offering a plant-based burger for a limited-time this month.
The Bacon Plant Ve features vegan bacon from THIS Isn’t Bacon, topped with vegan smoked gouda, shoestring fries, plant-based bacon ketchip, chipotle mayo, spinach and pickles, with a choice of gluten-free bun as substitute.
More vegan items from Pizza Hut, Nando’s
Pizza Hut and Nando’s have both unveiled their vegan items for this month.
The pizza chain’s Pepperphoni offering is made with pea protein, topped with Violife cheese.
Last year, Pizza Hut made its vegan Jack ‘n’ Ch**se pizza a permanent menu item. It is made with a tomato base with Violife non-dairy cheese alternative, sweetcorn, red onions, peppers and BBQ Jackfruit with a BBQ drizzle.
Nando’s, meanwhile, has launched a vegan version of its PERinaise sauce.
According to the chain, the vegan PERinaise sauce is their first vegan sauce, which retains the “creaminess of mayonnaise” and “spiciness of PERi-PERi.”
The new vegan condiment is sold across Nando’s restaurants and Tesco supermarkets.
