French luxury tea emporium Mariage Frères opens Covent Garden store
The site also offers breakfast options, sandwiches, pastries and tea cocktails.
France-based tea emporium Mariage Frères has launched their two-storey outlet in Covent Garden, claiming to feature the largest collection of tea in the world from its 1,200 sq m apothecary-style wall.
Over 1,000 varieties of tea from 36-tea producing companies are said to be displayed and offers 50 types of tea as well as sandwiches and pastries. These includes avocado guacamole-style with Japanese Matcha green tea and sweet potato crisps and seared Thai-style beef tartar seasoned with Lune Rouge tea, honey soy sauce, ginger, cashew and toasted sesame.
The first floor, dubbed as Salon De Thé, houses the Voyage where diners are seated and are designed to have walls with modern art and prints. The Musée du Thé upstairs showcases tea antiques from around the world and hand-illustrated oak and beech tea chests, pewter tea boxes, Chinese furniture made of carved wood, caddies, cannisters, teapots and old archives.
The outlet also contains two private rooms that can accommodate up to 30 seated and 50 standing.
