63% of pub and restaurant chain operators optimistic of business for the next 12 months: survey
Half of its respondents, however, expected lower consumer frequency in eating outside.
63% of Britain’s eating and drinking out market are said to be optimistic of their business prospects for the next 12 months whilst 39% responded that they are upbeat about the market as a whole, according to a survey by CGA and Fourth.
The confidence survey results showed that it has slowed from July’s 69%. Additionally, 38% reported that their performance had been ahead their expectations in the past six months whilst 39% said it was in-line with expectations.
"This simply reflects the volatility and uncertainty in the market," CGA group chief executive Phil Tate, said.
"This quarterly survey, conducted in November 2018, shows that operators are getting on with business, focussing on improving service and customer experience, as well as increasingly embracing trends in healthy eating and sustainability."
However, 50% responded that they are expecting a decrease consumers’ frequency of eating and drinking out.
“Our latest CGA Business Confidence Survey reflects a complex and mixed picture in the market at the moment. Many businesses continue to find conditions extremely challenging, and confidence clearly remains fragile as the year ends,” Tate added.
“Christmas trading will now have an enormous impact on the levels of optimism as we enter 2019.”
