Just Eat partners with Unilever, Notpla for seaweed-based sachet rollout
The sachets naturally biodegrade in six weeks.
Just Eat has partnered with Unilever and packaging solutions company Notpla in producing a biodegradable sachet made from seaweed for Hellmann’s ketchup, BBQ, tartare and garlic sauces.
The delivery platform introduced the colourless and flavourless sachet to its 65 partner restaurants in a trial run.
Pierre Paslier, co-chief executive of Notpla, said: “We’re very excited to work hand in hand with leaders in the takeaway and sauce sectors. Sustainability is a top priority for their consumers and is key for these sectors to survive in the long run, Pierre Paslier, Notpla co-chief executive, said.
“In partnership with Just Eat and Notpla, we’re creating a new and exciting experience for Just Eat customers who can enjoy the same great tasting Hellmann’s but with zero plastic waste,” Unilever managing director for UK and Ireland Hazel Destiny said.
The sachets naturally biodegrade in six weeks and can be disposed of in a home-made compost.
Last year saw the platform partnering with Skipping Rocks Lab for a similar initiative.
