LEON launches organic coffee range
Its packaging is fully recyclable, the company says.
LEON launched its Fairtrade-certified and organic coffee in Sainsbury’s supermarkets across the country last 23 May in over 1,000 distribution points, part of ongoing partnership with Puro Fairtrade Coffee and the World Land Trust.
Available in Blonde Roast (200g ground) and Dark Roast (200g whole bean and ground), the chain said each LEON coffee bag purchased will help save 4m2 of rainforest in Tanzania.
LEON has been working with Puro and the World Land Trust since their foundation in 2005. Through the amount of coffee served via its restaurants to date, LEON said it has directly helped save over 8 million m2 (2,183 acres) of rainforest or around 564,282 trees.
Through this continued partnership with The World Land Trust, LEON will also support the conservation improvement of the biodiversity of Tanzania’s Coastal Forests. With the addition of the Sainsbury’s coffee range, LEON said it intends to save a further 5 million m2 (1,236 acres), protecting approximately 209,080 trees in the next two years.
